Deanie’s Seafood Employee Detained And Accused Of Stealing Over $25k From Bucktown Business

A longtime Deanie’s Seafood employee was detained on Tuesday for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the famed Bucktown restaurant and market.

Cynthia Esquerre, 51, of Metairie, was charged with theft of more than $25,000 and 109 charges of computer fraud, according to Sgt. Brandon Veal, a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

According to officials, Esquerre spent years working at the restaurant’s Lake Avenue branch in Metairie. She worked in the fish market and occasionally served as the on-duty manager.

According to Veal, between December and February, investigators believe Esquerre altered cash register transactions and pocketed the money. The Sheriff’s Office reported that she took more than $25,000, although the exact quantity was not disclosed.

According to Veal, the eatery uncovered the crimes following an audit. Esquerre was apprehended at her home in Metairie.

She was being held Thursday at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on a $268,000 bond.
