A Gretna woman has been indicted for allegedly stealing $181,000 from a federal credit union where she worked as a bank manager, federal officials said.
Alexa Marie Braud, 34, was indicted on a bank theft charge on February 27, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
According to the DOJ investigation, on February 4, Braud went into Riverland Federal Credit Union in Gretna, where she worked as a bank manager, and stole $181,000 in cash. The National Credit Union Administration covers credit union deposits.
If convicted, Braud may face up to ten years in jail, a $250,000 fine, restitution, three years of supervised release, and a $100 obligatory special assessment charge.
According to US Attorney David I. Courcelle, an indictment is only an allegation of a crime, and guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Courcelle thanked both the Gretna Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. The prosecution is led by Assistant US Attorney Edward J. Rivera and Special Assistant US Attorney Mary Anne Flippo.
