A local adult romance novelist has been sentenced to prison for violating her probation in Harrison County.
Kelly Scyoc, 35, will serve five years in prison for several probation violations, according to the Harrison County Prosecutor’s Office.
Scyoc was arrested on February 11th for possession of fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, and alcohol, as well as drug paraphernalia, according to officials.
Officials believe Scyoc broke her probation in the following ways:
- Messages on her phone showed attempted to purchase drugs
- Communicated with criminals on a jail communication app
- Didn’t pay court costs related to her previous cases
- Lied to her probation officer about substance abuse usage
- Broke curfew
- Was unwilling to participate in a GOALs (Getting Over Addictive Lifestyles) program
This is the second time Scyoc has breached her alternate release. She served a 60-day term for her first infraction, but Judge Andrew McMunn sentenced her to five years in jail with credit for nearly three months spent, according to officials.
