Marion County woman apprehended after 8-year-old son ingests prescription medication

A Marion County woman was apprehended after police say her 8-year-old son was left unsupervised and swallowed prescription medication.

According to the Fairmont Police Department, Charity Lowery, 47, has been charged with child neglect resulting in a risk of death.

On February 25, Lowery’s son was left alone in the house with access to prescription medicines. According to police, Lowery was elsewhere in the house and not supervising the child when the drug was discovered and consumed.

The boy was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, where medical personnel gave him naloxone.

Officers also discovered the victim and two other children living in what they described as “deplorable conditions.” The Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) withdrew all three children from their household.

Lowery is currently in the North Central Regional Jail, where his bond is set at $20,000.
