A trip to the La Porte County Courthouse ended in handcuffs for a registered sexually violent predator on Tuesday, after deputies moved in on a warrant accusing him of lying on a marriage license application.
Bradley D. Armstrong, the suspect, was apprehended in the courthouse and subsequently transferred to the La Porte County Jail. The sheriff’s office announced the arrest on its public social media page.
According to a Facebook post by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, a warrant was issued on Monday charging Armstrong with providing false information on a marriage license application, a level 6 felony. According to the post, Armstrong is listed on the state registry as a sexually violent predator, and the deputies that arrested him are Sgt. Swanson and Deputy Ryan.

The Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry serves as the foundation for those classifications, with local county sheriffs handling it and the state overseeing it, according to the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association.
The warrant is for a Level 6 felony, which carries a possible jail sentence of six months to two and a half years and fines of up to $10,000, according to Indiana Code. The court will assess the sentence and any additional fines based on considerations such as prior convictions and legislative advice.
The department’s article carried the standard warning that arrests and criminal charges are allegations, and suspects are assumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Armstrong was taken to the La Porte County Jail, and the sheriff’s post did not provide bond information or a court date.
