An Illinois man has been taken into custody for allegedly issuing threats against Governor JB Pritzker.
Timothy Shemitis, 71, of Frankfort, was arrested Tuesday on counts of threatening a public official and telephone harassment, according to the Illinois State Police.
According to police, on March 3, special agents were told of several voicemail threats from Shemitis to the Governor’s Office. He was detained on March 17 and placed into Will County Jail.
According to State Police, situations involving potential threats against public officials are investigated using the Inappropriate Contact and Communication methodology, which includes investigating proven threats and those that satisfy a criminal threshold and providing a security assessment to the victim of the threat.
