Chicago Man Sentenced To 27 Months In Prison For Military Scam Scheme

A Chicago, Illinois man has been sentenced to 27 months in prison and over $165,000 in fines for a scheme to defraud active U.S. military troops.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, 33-year-old Dwayne Adams was accused of conspiring with others to use social media to contact military members, informing them that they were underpaid and had to return their wages before being paid the correct amounts.

Adams was charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of wire fraud.

The Department of the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation examined the matter.
