Leesburg High School student apprehended on loitering charge

A Leesburg High School student was arrested when cops saw him loitering at an apartment complex with sweaty latex gloves in his pocket.

Officers came to Cypress Oaks apartments, located at 336 Sandy Oaks Cir., about 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, regarding 18-year-old Daron Jamil Mackey possibly attempting to break into vehicles in the parking lot, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

They arrived to find Mackey carrying a rucksack at the apartment complex’s entryway. He allowed the authorities to search him, showing a pair of sweaty blue latex gloves in his shorts’ pocket. Officers then phoned his mother, who resides in the complex, according to the report.

She explained that Mackey had been booted out about three days before. She would not have let him in because of the late hour, and he was aware of this. She concluded by stating that he had no reason to be at the facility, according to the report.

Mackey was subsequently transported to the LPD. While there, the officer discovered a baggie containing 23 grams of marijuana buried in his groin, according to the report.

He was charged with possessing more than 20 grams of marijuana, as well as loitering and prowling. He was booked into Lake County Jail and released after posting a $3,000 bond.
