He then selected a $429.98 EcoFlow battery generator from a showcase and arranged items from the internet order around and on top of it to hide it. A Sam’s Club delivery driver was detained after 14 generators went missing from the store in Lady Lake.
Eduardo Argenis Morales Pereira, 33, of Belleview, entered Sam’s Club, 755 N U.S. Hwy. 27/441, to fulfill an online order as a delivery driver at 12:55 p.m. on March 16, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
He then selected a $429.98 EcoFlow battery generator from a showcase and arranged items from the internet order around and on top of it to hide it. It was not included in the order, and he departed the business without paying for it, according to the report.
The business was initially unaware of the theft and only discovered it after noticing the generator was missing from the exhibit. The store management began analyzing security footage for suspects, and they identified Morales Pereira as one of their “Spark” delivery drivers. The complaint states that he did not include the generator in that delivery or any other pickups he had scheduled for that day.
So, when he returned to the business on March 26, the managers alerted the police. He was eventually detained in front of the shop.
The complaint stated that 14 generators were stolen from the store; however, this is the only confirmed theft traced to Morales Pereira. The thefts continue under investigation.
Morales Pereira was charged with retail theft and brought into Lake County Jail. The Venezuela native was released after paying a $1,000 bond.
