Las Vegas Casino Employees Accused In $300,000 Skimming Scheme

Three casino employees are accused of skimming registers, resulting in roughly $300,000 in losses, and have been arrested, according to 8 News Now investigators.

Christina Carbonell, Siraprapha Rattana, and Rommel Soriano are suspected of stealing money from Binion’s Gambling Hall and Hotel on Fremont Street between 2022 and April of last year. The casino’s inquiry into the stolen money began following an internal audit of Binion’s Café, according to Metro police papers.

According to records, an employee informed police last year about the alleged plan in which employees stole money from the restaurant’s cash registers. Rattana was caught by hotel security at the time of the call, and she told authorities that she and the other two took approximately $200 every day on average.

Hotel security told authorities that video evidence showed Rattana “skimming from the register” and pocketing money. Detectives believe Carbonell and Rattana, who worked as cashiers, “would intentionally apply unauthorized discounts or manually reduce the transaction total” but then “remain the discounted cash amount,” according to documents.

Soriano, a server, admitted to collecting the money, and video evidence showed him assisting in concealing the theft from surveillance cameras, authorities claimed.

Metro investigators investigated the trio’s financial records and discovered enormous sums of money traveling between multiple accounts. The data also revealed massive cash withdrawals from local casinos.

Binion’s suffered a total loss of $298,000, according to papers.

Carbonell is charged with theft of more than $100,000. In a court appearance earlier this year, she pleaded not guilty and was ordered by the judge to avoid the casino. She did not have to post bond, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 20.

Rattana is charged with theft of more than $100,000. She paid $20,000 bail and pleaded not guilty. A preliminary hearing was planned for April 22.

Soriano is charged with stealing between $5,000 and $25,000. He posted bond, but the amount was not noted on his court docket. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 21 after he entered a not guilty plea.
