20-year-old apprehended after carjacking in North Portland

A 20-year-old man faces many counts after a carjacking in North Portland on Friday evening.

The carjacking was reported around 6:15 p.m. in the 7000 block of North Portsmouth Avenue. A short time later, investigators discovered the stolen vehicle near North Peninsular Avenue and North Hunt Street.

Police stated the suspect was seen driving recklessly, reaching speeds of up to 115 mph at times.

The suspect eventually abandoned his automobile and escaped on foot. According to police, the Air Support Unit assisted authorities in locating and arresting the offender, Damaree Baxter.

Baxter was arrested in Multnomah County for first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a firearm, attempting to flee by vehicle, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

According to authorities, a firearm was discovered in the area where Baxter was apprehended hours after the event occurred.
