A serial shoplifter suspected of skip scanning was arrested at a Walmart in The Villages.
Joyce Reddick Freeman, 61, of Fruitland Park, was arrested Sunday morning at the Walmart in Sarasota Plaza on a felony larceny complaint.
She went to the store’s self-checkout aisle and forgot to scan some of the products she had chosen, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Her activities were recorded on surveillance. She attempted to leave the store without paying for the $52.79 worth of things she had not purchased.
She was detained by store personnel. A deputy came to the store and discovered that Freeman had previously been convicted of theft in Lake County in 2002 and 2003.
Because of his previous offenses, Freeman was charged with felony theft. She was booked into Sumter County Detention Center and released after paying a $2,500 bond.
