Man arraigned in Pageville burglary case

POMEROY, Ohio – A man charged in connection with a burglary in Pageville has had his bond set a $50,000.

According to Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney James K. Stanley on January 11, 2019, Donald Shaffer, Jr., 37, of Athens, Ohio, was arraigned in Meigs County Court of Common Pleas on one count of Burglary, a felony of the third degree, and one count of Obstructing Official Business, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Meigs County Court of Common Pleas Judge Linda R. Warner set bond in the amount $50,000, and Shaffer remains in custody pending his next court appearance. Shaffer is scheduled for an intial pre-trial on February 4, 2019, a final pre-trial on February 25, 2019, and a jury trial on March 21, 2019.

Shaffer is alleged to have committed burglary on November 25, 2018 by trespassing in an occupied structure in Pageville with purpose to commit a criminal offense inside. Law enforcement located Shaffer at the scene, and when law enforcement attempted to take him into custody, Shaffer is alleged to have obstructed official business by breaking detention and fleeing the scene on foot. Shaffer was apprehended on December 30, 2018. The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office investigated this matter.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
