MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio - From rain to snow, the county is expected to see a mixed bag of weather through Jan. 20, 2019.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remain is effect from 11 p.m. Saturday to noon on Sunday for Meigs County and the surrounding areas. Mixed precipitation tonight quickly changing to snow. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze expected. Portions of southeast Ohio, northeast Kentucky and central, northern, and western West Virginia are in the Winter Weather Advisory mainly overnight tonight into Sunday morning.
Roads will quickly become treacherous as temperatures plummet into the 20s in wind blown snow early Sunday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
Additionally the county and surrounding areas are under a Flood Watch through Saturday night. Through late tonight rain will overspread the area this morning and continue into the night. Rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are forecast. Ground conditions are wet, and most of this rain is expected to runoff into streams, creeks and rivers. This will cause strong rises and possible flooding conditions throughout the watch area. Flooding of low lying, urban and other poor drainage areas, and roads, is possible. Stream and creek rises could cause high water along adjacent roads, and there will be rises on rivers as well.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
