Man sentenced to 40 years in prison for shooting victim 13 times during Minneapolis dice game

A man has received his prison sentence for fatally shooting a victim 13 times while attempting to rob him at a dice game in Minneapolis last year.

Tyrone De Shun Childs Jr., 21, was sentenced to 40 years in jail after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and assault.

According to the criminal complaint, Childs approached 35-year-old Jermaine Jabaar Typray Barker on the sidewalk near the junction of Eighth Street North and Hennepin Avenue South on August 27 while many individuals were playing dice.

Witnesses told authorities that the gunman shouted something like, “Gimme that,” to Barker, who responded, “You’re gonna have to shoot me.”

That’s when Childs opened fire, striking Barker 13 times and scattering spectators. Later, surveillance footage appeared to show Childs raiding Barker’s pockets.

In addition, a 22-year-old male was shot in the leg during the incident.
