Salvation Army announces Camp SWONKEY, all-income camp
Summer sleepaway camp applications are now available, no application fee
THE PLAINS, Ohio – The Salvation Army is pleased to announce the opening of applications for this year’s summer sleepaway camp at Camp SWONEKY.
Camp SWONEKY’s goal is to provide an exciting, healthy, camp experience for youths who, due to financial hardship, may otherwise be unable to have a summer camp experience! Camp is open to (and rewarding for) all youths regardless of financial status, but is designed to be equally accessible to low-income families.
Camp will be held July 17-22, and is open to children ages 7-13. The weeklong camp experience includes boating, fishing, crafts, a petting zoo, sports, horses, archery, and more fun, age-appropriate activities.
Camp is located in 300 acres of wooded land in Oregonia, OH. The Salvation Army will provide transportation to and from camp at our office in The Plains OH.
The price of the camp experience in $20/child, but will be waived upon request for financial hardship with no questions asked. The Salvation Army believes all children should be able to enjoy the camp experience no matter the financial circumstances of their family.
Applications may be picked up at our office at 70 N Plains Rd Ste 122 in The Plains OH, may be downloaded from the internet by following our link at www.athenssalvationarmy.org. A request for an application by email or mail may be made by calling 740-797-1305 or emailing [email protected]. Requests for additional information or questions may also be submitted to this email, made by phone, or by contacting us in-office.
The camp application is due June 26thand requires the completion of a medical form by the child’s doctor, so potential attendees should contact our office as soon as possible for their applications.
