Student with loaded firearm apprehended after fleeing Orange County high school

A student who was reportedly found with a loaded firearm was apprehended after fleeing a high school campus in Westminster.

On April 28, a school resource officer at La Quinta High School responded to allegations of a student vaping on campus at around 10 a.m.

The student was discovered and led to the principal’s office but refused to allow a search of his suitcase, officials said. The teen fled campus shortly after.

Officers soon located the student and detained him. While examining his possessions, they allegedly discovered a loaded weapon.

Authorities confirmed that the rifle lacked a serial number and was classified as a “ghost gun,” according to the Orange County Register.

Investigators also examined the student’s residence, but no further firearms were discovered.

The teenager was arrested on weapons charges and put into Orange County Juvenile Hall. His identification was concealed due to his minor status.
