Police: 2 Employees Killed In Kentucky Bank Robbery, Suspect At Large

Two employees were shot and killed during a bank robbery in Kentucky on Thursday, and investigators were searching for the perpetrator.

According to Kentucky State Police, a man dressed in a light-colored sweatshirt, mask, and gloves entered a U.S. Bank in Brea, about 36 miles south of Lexington, and shot and murdered a man and a woman who were both bank employees. Their names were not immediately released.

“This is a bad day for Brea,” said Trooper Scottie Pennington, a state police spokesperson, at a news briefing. “They’re our people that work in our community, and they’re no longer with us.”

Pennington stated that authorities had some leads and were “trying our best to bring this evil person to justice.”

It is unknown whether the suspect left the bank with anything. Local and state police reacted, as did the FBI and other federal authorities.

State police shared a photo of the suspect on social media and encouraged the public to contact them with any information. According to police, the male fled the area on foot and stood about 6-foot-3. If you observe something abnormal and don’t feel comfortable about it — for example, if your pets are acting strangely — call us,” Pennington added.

Nearby schools were momentarily put on lockdown until officials assessed that they were safe. Pennington said students couldn’t leave on buses and had to be picked up by their parents.

In a statement to the Associated Press, U.S. Bank stated that they are cooperating with law enforcement and are committed to assisting victims’ relatives and coworkers. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic event that claimed the lives of two of our employees at our Berea, Kentucky branch earlier today,” the firm said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, our colleagues and the entire Berea community.”
