The former interim mayor and longtime alderman of the Town of Weir have been sentenced.
Doug Atkinson appeared before Judge Joey Loper in Winston County Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 28.
Atkinson pleaded guilty to child exploitation in connection with a Webster County indictment filed in June 2025.
Loper sentenced him to 20 years in Mississippi Department of Corrections detention, eight of which were suspended.
Atkinson’s term will run simultaneously with his case in Choctaw County for the same crime.
He was returned to the custody of the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Department.
