Beverly Sasberry, 64, of Florida, is facing a long list of felony charges after police say she purposely ran over a group of baby ducklings with her car. The arrest comes after a brutal incident on Jacksonville’s Westside that was caught on camera and observed by neighbors.
The incidents took place on Tempest Street on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
A nearby couple reported seeing a red Honda Accord collide with a gaggle of ducklings.
According to witnesses, the driver did not only hit the birds once; she allegedly turned the vehicle around and ran over them several times to ensure they were hit.
When the couple confronted Sasberry a few days later, she allegedly expressed no remorse. She informed the witnesses that she killed the animals on purpose because she was irritated at the mess they were causing in her yard.
With this admission and video footage of the incident, the neighbors notified District 4 Patrol officers.
Police utilized the video to identify Sasberry and her vehicle before pulling her over on Thursday, April 30. Following a police interview, she was detained and charged with 11 counts of felony animal cruelty, one for each duckling murdered in the roadway.
Following the arrest, the police department made it plain that “we do not take animal cruelty cases lightly.”
Authorities are advising the public that anyone who witnesses an animal-related crime should call 904-630-0500 right once.
