Police discovered the body of a 50-year-old man from Midland beneath the Dow Dam on the Tittabawassee River on Saturday morning, May 2.
A news release from the Midland Police Department stated that officers responded to the Dow Dam area around 11:45 a.m. after receiving a report of an unmanned kayak lodged beneath the dam.
When officers arrived, they found a man trapped under the dam. Crews recovered him from the water, identified him, and pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding his name until his family receives notification.
Officials have scheduled an autopsy.
“The deceased has been identified. We are respectfully giving some time before releasing, so the family has a chance to notify extended family. The unfortunate tragedy is still under investigation,” Midland Police Department Deputy Chief Jai Mahabir said on Sunday morning,
