Prosecuting Attorney, Victim Advocates Attend 2 Days in May

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney James K. Stanley, along with Director of Victim Assistance Theda Petrasko, advocate Shelley Kemper, advocate Alexis Schwab, and Investigator Michael Oliver attended the Ohio Attorney General’s annual conference on victim assistance 2 Days in May in Columbus, Ohio from May 20 to May 21, 2019.  This year’s theme was “Hidden Victims, Hidden Crimes.”  The conference featured four guest speakers and thirty-five workshops.

Attorney General Dave Yost hosted the conference and addressed attendees at the start of the event.  Guest speakers included shooting victim Aswad Thomas of Alliance for Safety and Justice, human trafficking expert Steven Procopio, and rape prevention advocate Dr. Gail Stern of Catharsis Productions.  Workshops included topics ranging from Marsy’s Law, domestic violence, and civil protection orders to human trafficking, sex offenses, and collaborative care amongst many others.

“2 Days in May is a great conference for networking, fine-tuning skills, and learning innovative ways of serving victims of crime,” Stanley said.  “Each of us who attended the conference will utilize the knowledge gained this week in the office, in the field, and in the courtroom, so that we can continue to safeguard victim rights every day and to advocate for victims to the best of our abilities.”
