Fatal Crash on State Route 7

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio – One person is dead following a crash on State Route 7 in Meigs County, Ohio on August 4, 2019.

According to a statement from the Gallipolis Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, they are investigating a two vehicle collision that occurred at 1:34 p.m. on Sunday. Austin R. Halfhill, 22, of Pomeroy, was traveling north bound on State Route 7 in a 2007 Nissan Sentra and drove left of center striking head on a 2005 Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The motorcycle was driven by John N. McElfresh, 62, of Glouster, and had been traveling south bound on State Route 7. McElfresh was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the statement.

Halfhill reportedly had “minor injuries” according to statement. He was transported to Holzer Meigs Emergency Room by Meigs County EMS. Halfhill was wearing a seat belt.

McElfresh was transported to Whites Funeral Home.

The roadway was closed for about four hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
