A 67-year-old Winter Haven resident won the top prize of $2 million in a Florida Lottery scratch-off game on Monday, state lottery officials said.
Rose Simmons presented her winning ticket for the “100X THE CASH” game at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee on April 20. She chose to accept her winnings in a single, lump-sum payment of $1,111,700.00.
Simmons purchased the winning $10 ticket at a 7-Eleven convenience store on 4000 Recker Highway in Winter Haven.
According to the Florida Lottery, the 100X THE CASH scratch-off game offers more than $243.4 million in total cash prizes, including ten top awards of $2 million. The agency rates the total chances of winning any prize in the game as 1-in-3.49.
Lottery data show that the state agency has donated more than $51 billion to Florida’s school system since its founding in 1988, including funds for the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
The agency claims that 99 percent of its total earnings is reinvested in the state’s economy through player prize payouts, sales commissions to over 13,600 businesses, and educational transfers. Since 1988, the lottery has awarded more than $110 billion in prizes.
