Woman taken into custody on suspicion of OVI in Westlake after crashing and wetting pants

A 71-year-old Fairview Park woman faces drunk driving charges after police say she crashed in a Westlake parking lot and attempted to flee before witnesses took her car keys.

Westlake police were dispatched around 2:45 p.m. Saturday to the parking lot of the GetGo station at Center Ridge and Columbia Roads for a report of a crash. The caller informed dispatchers that the woman who caused the collision appeared intoxicated and urinated on herself.

Before authorities arrived, the woman allegedly attempted to drive away in a red Jeep, but witnesses interfered and took her keys, according to police. Officers noticed damage to the Jeep and reported that the woman was intoxicated and had wet her pants.

According to police, the woman eventually claimed she had “probably had too much to drink to be driving” and that she had taken “one of the boxed wines.” Officers stated that they had to assist her with her balance during field sobriety testing, after which she was arrested on suspicion of OVI.

According to authorities, the woman refused to take a breathalyzer test at the police station.

An open box of Vendange wine was discovered in the Jeep, according to the report.

The woman was cited for driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, and possessing an open container of alcohol in a car.

Police claimed her license had already been suspended following an OVI incident in April.
