Four people were killed when a pickup truck went off the Cicero Avenue bridge on Sunday morning, according to officials.
The crash happened around 2:16 a.m. in the 6900 block of South Cicero Avenue.
Chicago police said they responded to a report of someone pointing a gun at them while driving.
Officers discovered the vehicle and attempted to halt it, but the driver refused to stop, according to authorities.
Officers momentarily pursued the car before halting their pursuit.
Illinois State authorities then attempted to stop a car matching the description in the 5500 block of South Cicero Avenue, authorities said.
According to authorities, the driver stopped but left as troopers began their investigation.
The pickup truck then departed the scene at great speed, plunging off a bridge and colliding with a train boxcar in the 6900 block of South Cicero Avenue.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that four people perished in the crash.
According to police, two male and one female occupant were pronounced deceased at the scene.
A fourth female occupant was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in critical condition, according to police reports. Officials did not immediately confirm whether she was the fourth person to die or if there was another victim.
