At least six people were injured, two critically, early Sunday when an assailant opened fire on a crowd gathered outdoors in a Northwest Side neighborhood of Chicago, according to police.
The Chicago Police Department reported a drive-by shooting in the Humboldt Park area at roughly 2:09 a.m.”While outside, an unidentified offender discharged a firearm, striking multiple victims,” according to the statement.
The shooter remained at large on Sunday. Detectives were attempting to identify the offender and the motivation for the attack.
A dispatcher told ABC Chicago station WLS that a 911 caller reported hearing up to 30 gunshots. According to a tape of police radio communications obtained by WLS, the caller reported that a neighbor and a woman had been shot on a porch.
Police said two women and four males, ages 33 to 46, were brought to surrounding hospitals with gunshot wounds.
One victim, a 35-year-old man, was shot many times and was in serious condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago as of late Sunday morning, authorities said. According to authorities, a 36-year-old male was shot many times and is in critical condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Police said the remaining four victims were in good condition.
