A Tallahassee man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for threatening President Donald Trump and other government officials, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Diego Villavicencio, 36, was sentenced to two charges of transmitting interstate threats, one count of hindering or retaliating against a federal official, and one count of threatening the President.
According to court filings, Villavicencio made threats on social media over a period of several months.
One message was aimed at former Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, stating that he would “be shot and killed September 23,” according to court records.
Another threat made on his X account was aimed at former US Representative Eric Swalwell. Court records show that Villavicencio also sent a threatening direct message to Swalwell.
Several months later, court filings show that Villavicencio posted on 4chan, an anonymous imageboard site, that he would go to Mar-a-Lago “to take a couple of shots at Trump and some of the other corrupt plutocrats.”
Villavicencio’s two-year sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release, with the first year spent in home detention, according to the US Attorney’s Office.
His supervision requires a mental health evaluation and therapy, as well as submission to electronic surveillance.
