One woman is dead after an early morning argument leads to gunfire in Shannon.
Shannon Police Chief Tony Rogers reported that officers responded to a trailer park on Carl Drive and Barbee Avenue at 6:30 a.m. Dravis Holmes, 31, reportedly shot and killed Taneka Garth, 39, of Shannon.
According to Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green, Garth was declared dead at North Mississippi Medical Center at 6:51 a.m. Chief, according to Rogers, Holmes shot into the back window of a pickup truck (a white Toyota Tundra), striking Garth, who was sitting in the passenger seat.
According to Shannon police, Garth and Holmes lived in the same neighborhood where the shooting occurred, and they had a physical argument earlier that morning in Tupelo.
He claims Holmes informed authorities that Garth and another lady, the vehicle’s driver, opened fire on him first.
According to Shannon Police, Holmes had no gunshot wounds, and six shells were discovered at the scene.
Holmes was arrested and accused of homicide and shooting at a car. He is currently in the Lee County Jail.
Garth’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Pearl for an autopsy.
