A 28-year-old Florida man is charged with aggravated battery charge after allegedly stabbing his 12-year-old cousin during an argument over a video game console.
Andrew Zagazeta was arrested on July 31 after police reacted to a complaint of a stabbing at a nearby property. According to the arrest record, the victim’s great-grandmother informed investigators that Zagazeta and his younger cousin had a verbal argument about the game console.
She stated that she stepped to break up the argument and did not notice a knife during the altercation before Zagazeta left the house.
Shortly after Zagazeta left, the 12-year-old informed his great-grandmother that he had been stabbed in the hip. Paramedics brought the youngster to a neighboring hospital, where he was treated for a puncture wound about 1 centimeter deep.
While speaking with authorities at the hospital, the boy said that Zagazeta pushed him after he confronted his older relative about using the video game system without permission. The victim stated that he had initially taken a knife from a kitchen storage block during the argument, but returned it once his great-grandmother intervened.
According to the victim’s allegation in the police affidavit, Zagazeta then pulled out a knife hidden beneath the television set and hit him in the hip.
Zagazeta is still in custody at the county jail on a $20,000 bond.
