According to the Indiana State Police (ISP), a man was discovered dead with a cutting tool near an access panel, apparently attempting to cut copper cables to keep for himself.
According to a press statement, maintenance crews cleaning ditches along I-70 on Indianapolis’ west side discovered a deceased corpse near a utility pole.
The ISP was contacted at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday and arrived to the area, where they discovered an unresponsive man partially inside an access panel into a utility pole. The man still had a cutting instrument in his hands, which is typically used to cut bolts or wire. His hands showed evidence of electrocution.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office is investigating the exact cause of death.
The power pole belongs to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), and an investigation reveals that the individual attempted to illegally cut the wire from inside the pole.
ISP is requesting the public to report any strange activities around utility poles, especially light poles and camera towers along interstates.
The investigation is underway.
