A 20-year-old Georgia man was taken into custody on August 7, 2026, for allegedly stealing more than $22,000 from a Florida resident in an impersonation scheme, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Thomas Kelly Pullen of Savanna is accused of grand theft, organizing a plot to defraud, and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
According to authorities, the victim, a Marathon, Florida citizen, claimed receiving repeated phone calls in May 2026 from individuals claiming to represent the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The callers informed the victim that he had skipped jury duty and needed to pay a fee to avoid arrest.
Following the callers’ directions, the victim agreed to hand over $22,450 in cash to an unidentified man acting as an undercover police officer. The exchange took place at Marathon’s grocery store parking lot.
Later that day, the victim received another phone call demanding an additional $31,500. Suspecting fraud, the victim reported the event to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives initiated an inquiry, and the victim identified Pullen as the person who took the money. Pullen was subsequently arrested on August 7.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges or arrests by Monroe County and other law enforcement agencies may be pending.
