A months-long joint investigation into a Sinaloa Cartel drug trafficking operation recently led authorities to a methamphetamine manufacturing facility, where $12.5 million worth of the narcotic was recovered.
According to Los Angeles Port Police, the joint investigation began in January 2026 and was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) New York Field Division and the DEA’s Los Angeles High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Group 48. It also engaged other local law enforcement organizations.
Over the next six months, authorities seized 20,000 fentanyl tablets and 20 pounds of methamphetamine. A more significant breakthrough occurred when ground surveillance, electronic monitoring, and aerial surveillance led detectives to a “clandestine” methamphetamine laboratory in a remote desert area of Los Angeles County.
On July 28, federal and local authorities conducted a search warrant at the location, discovering 1,378 pounds of methamphetamine in crystal and highly condensed liquid forms. The overall worth of the methamphetamine was roughly $12.5 million. About $80,000 in cash was also seized.
Three Mexican nationals were arrested.
