Man reported missing in Phoenix found more than 100 miles away near Sedona

A man reported missing to Phoenix police was found after being observed waving down traffic on Interstate 17 near Stoneman Lake, roughly 100 miles north of the Valley.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to I-17 east of Sedona on August 5. DPS made contact with a man who claimed to have been out in the wilderness for around five days. According to DPS, the man did not eat and instead drank from neighboring creeks.

A records check revealed that the man was reported missing by Phoenix police two days previously. The individual was taken to the hospital and his family was alerted, according to DPS.
