A pair of Los Angeles County residents were apprehended Friday in connection with retail thefts at the same Camarillo Target.
Deputies responded to a reported retail theft at the Target shopping center in Camarillo on July 27, 2026, and discovered that two suspects and their vehicle had been captured on surveillance footage but were unknown at the time, according to a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office press release issued Monday.
Detectives took up the investigation and entered the duo’s physical descriptions and car license plate into the Sheriff’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system’s hotlist, which was shared with the local law enforcement agency.
The hotlist feature sends a real-time alert to law enforcement when a vehicle is captured by the ALPR system, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
On August 21, detectives received an ALPR alert that the same vehicle used in the July Target theft was at the Camarillo Target and coordinated with loss prevention personnel to confirm the same two people had entered the store and fled with additional stolen items, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Patrol deputies in the vicinity were notified and executed a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Two suspects, a 60-year-old male and a 64-year-old woman, were arrested before being conclusively recognized as the duo responsible for the July theft from the same Target, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, a search of the vehicle revealed around $1,500 in stolen property, as well as a small amount of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, detectives suspect the couple took the items for resale due to the “quantity and nature” of the products.
Both Los Angeles County citizens were detained and lodged in the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on accusations of organized retail theft, grand theft, conspiracy to conduct a felony, and shoplifting, according to the local Sheriff’s Office.
Each remains in detention, with bail set at $20,000, and the 60-year-old faces additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
