A man was taken into custody for attempting to conduct a fake traffic stop in Central Florida.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detained the man for attempting to conduct a traffic stop using one of their undercover vehicles.
A black Chevrolet Suburban flashed red and blue emergency lights while pursuing an undercover Sheriff’s vehicle on U.S. Highway 301 North in Thonotosassa, near Tampa, Hillsborough County, pretending to attempt a traffic stop.
Deputies soon intervened and stopped the vehicle. During the inquiry, investigators discovered the unlawful emergency light arrangement, an extra two-foot emergency light bar, and a gun.
Nadi Jabari, 46, was detained and charged with false personation, unlawful use of blue light, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
“When someone falsely presents themselves as law enforcement, they jeopardize the trust between deputies and the community we serve,” stated Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This person’s acts were dangerous, purposeful, and illegal. We will vigorously investigate anyone who impersonates a deputy and uses that deceit to intimidate or injure others.
Impersonating a law enforcement officer is a serious felony that endangers innocent individuals and erodes public trust. If you are unsure whether a traffic stop is real, drive to a well-lit public area and dial 911.
