With brutal heat continuing to affect large parts of the United States, many people are looking for ways to cool off. One content creator tried to kill two birds with one stone while grabbing a meal at Chick-fil-A but apparently got something unexpected in return—a lecture.
Lynne (@chaoticcrochet) shared a video that has received more than 102,000 views.
In the video, she described how a Chick-fil-A manager allegedly approached her about the chain’s ice cream policy. She said the manager firmly told her she could not order a “large ice cream,” even though the company had previously offered quart-sized containers.
What happened at this Chick-fil-A?
In her video, Lynne said she stopped at Chick-fil-A for grilled chicken nuggets and a salad. However, the heat left her craving something more. With the temperature hitting 94 degrees during peak lunch hour, she decided to add an ice cream to her order.
The content creator said she made a simple request at the drive-thru. She wanted a larger serving of ice cream than Chick-fil-A’s standard “Icedream Cup.”
She asked if she could buy the ice cream in a disposable milkshake cup and offered to pay extra. The drive-thru employee told her she could. They even explained that she was essentially asking for an unspun milkshake, meaning she could pay the regular milkshake price. Lynne then moved forward with the order.
But she soon received conflicting information.
They stop her
“ I go to this Chick-fil-A so much that the workers know me by my truck, like I am a good, faithful shopper here. I’m [at] … the part of the drive-thru where … there’s a person out there in that little booth [to] … make sure you paid,” she said. “ A manager walks out … She’s like, ‘Hey, are you the one that ordered the tall cup of ice cream? And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ And she goes, ‘So we’re not allowed to do that.’”
Lynne said the manager told her a corporate rule specifically prohibited employees from serving ice cream in anything other than the standard cup. The manager explained that the employee Lynne had spoken with earlier made a mistake by offering her a larger size. Lynne later said she felt the manager had chastised her.
After the manager walked away, another Chick-fil-A employee asked Lynne what had happened. She explained the situation and learned that Chick-fil-A had previously sold quart-sized containers of ice cream. The chain apparently no longer offered larger portions.
“I don’t understand it,” Lynne said.
‘Corporate changed the rules’
In the comments, viewers who said they worked at Chick-fil-A claimed Lynne’s request was not unreasonable. They also said Chick-fil-A previously allowed customers to order larger portions of ice cream.
“As someone who worked at a [CFA]. You used to be able to get ice cream in a LARGE drink cup, one viewer said. “Corporate changed the rules, and they only sell the small cups now.”
Another commenter felt the manager’s reaction was excessive.
“All she needed to say is hey. imma do this today but unfortunately because of corporate rules and regulations. we can’t do this again and I apologize,” they said.
Lynne responded, “Ya that would have been fine! But I got scolded and talked down … to the point that the other employee was like wtf why is she doing this to you.”
Online, Chick-fil-A offers only two ways to order its ice cream: the Chick-fil-A Icedream Cup or Cone. At one point, Chick-fil-A did allow customers to buy quart-sized containers of ice cream in the chain’s disposable cups. It remains unclear whether some locations still offer quart-sized containers, though other customers have said locations refuse to fill larger cups.
