A Cincinnati man was taken into custody by federal officials on Friday after authorities discovered firearms in his possession that were linked to a double homicide and two other shootings.
Lamont Champion, 27, appeared in federal court after being accused with illegally possessing a handgun while a convicted felon.
According to federal charging documents, investigators seized a weapon from Champion in June. Ballistics testing allegedly linked the gun to round casings recovered during a February incident that killed two persons in the Villages of Roll Hill.
Federal authorities raided Champion’s home on Friday and discovered a 9mm handgun that investigators believe was used in two further shootings.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Champion reportedly used the gun to shoot someone on East Clifton Avenue in July.
According to investigators, the same pistol was used in August when Champion reportedly shot victims inside a vehicle near the Enclave Event Center.
Prosecutors stated that analysis of the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network linked the July and August shootings to the same firearm.
Investigators also investigated Champion’s phone, allegedly finding text and audio communications in which he referred to himself as the “reaper” and boasted of shooting and killing people.
Prosecutors claim Champion also described one of the shootings and mocked the victim’s reaction after being shot.
Champion has past felony convictions for fentanyl and guns, according to authorities.
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is a federal offense punishable by up to 15 years imprisonment.
