A 35-year-old Lady Lake man was taken into custody on a felony child molestation warrant while on the job Friday night at a pipe manufacturing plant in Wildwood.
Before 9:30 p.m., officers from the Wildwood Police Department responded to the Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company at 4149 County Road 124A after receiving a report about an employee with an active out-of-county warrant. When officers arrived, they met with a manager outside the warehouse. According to the arrest report, the manager confirmed that Keith Robert Westmoreland was working inside and led him to the front of the building, where he was taken into custody.
A records check revealed Westmoreland was wanted on a Lake County warrant issued the day before for two counts of indecent or lascivious molestation.
After being held in the patrol car, Westmoreland informed authorities that he had a handgun in his white 2024 Toyota RAV4, which was parked in the warehouse lot. The weapon was confiscated for safekeeping and stored in an evidence locker at the Wildwood Police Department.
He was being held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Centre while awaiting transport to the Lake County Jail.
