A teenager in Texas lured a man to a park under false pretenses and then stabbed him repeatedly, according to Lone Star State law enforcement.
Gabriele Olortegui, 17, faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a press release issued by Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman.
The incident occurred on Sept. 18 at Burroughs Park on Hufsmith Road in Tomball, a small city and suburb located approximately 30 miles northwest of Houston and part of the broader metropolitan area.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find a man suffering from multiple stab wounds to his face, neck, and hand, police stated. Emergency personnel transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition and faces “a long road to recovery,” the constable reported.
Law enforcement officers located and arrested Olortegui shortly thereafter. Authorities did not provide details regarding where or how they apprehended her.
Investigators offered insight into the apparent motive behind the attack. According to the press release, the teenager “allegedly lured the victim to the park under false pretenses.”
Authorities allege Olortegui attacked the stabbing victim because she believed he had sexual relations with her girlfriend, according to court documents obtained by Houston-based CBS affiliate KHOU.
Police state the defendant and the victim were otherwise strangers to one another. Law enforcement did not disclose additional details about any alleged connection between Olortegui and the injured man.
Olortegui allegedly used a pocket knife in the attack, according to a criminal complaint filed in Harris County and obtained by Law&Crime. A probable cause determination document further alleges the defendant used a “pocket knife” to stab the victim five times in the face and head.
In a separate court filing, prosecutors moved to have Olortegui evaluated for possible intellectual disability or mental illness.
The Harris County Jail detained the defendant on $75,000 bond, which was posted. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 14.
