Gardai, Ireland’s national police, nabbed four men after officers discovered drugs and cash worth more than €2,380,000.
The cocaine, cash, heroin, and magic mushrooms were uncovered during a raid on Kilkenny, Dublin, and other parts of the country on Wednesday. Following the seizures, two suspects were hauled before the court.
However, two others remained detained. According to Gardai, the operation was an intelligence-driven inquiry involving the Drugs and Organized Crime Bureau as well as police from Dublin, the northwest, and eastern areas.
During the raids, officers discovered cocaine worth €1.6 million ($1.8 million), heroin worth €529,000 ($600,000), €34,300 ($39,000) in cash, and a small amount of magic mushrooms, according to the Irish Mirror. The operations were part of Operation Tara, a statewide Garda initiative targeting drug groups.
The force stated on Thursday that the two men were presented in court in Dublin and Kilkenny. “Yesterday, the 23rd of September 2026, an intelligence-led operation, under Operation Tara, was conducted by the Garda National Drugs and Organized Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) in collaboration with regional Garda units from the Northwestern Region, Eastern Region, and the Dublin Metropolitan Region, targeting regional drug trafficking networks,” a statement read.
“A number of searches took place, resulting in the arrest of 4 males aged in their 20s, 40s, and 60s, following the seizure of a number of vehicles along with cocaine with an estimated street value of €1.6 million, diamorphine with an estimated street value of €529,000. And a small quantity of psilocin (magic mushrooms), cash totaling €34,300
“Two of these males have been charged with drug trafficking and money laundering offenses and have appeared before Kilkenny District Court and the Criminal Courts of Justice,” the statement continued. “The detention of the other two males is ongoing at garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.”
Authorities affirm that the inquiry is ongoing.
