A Florida mother and father left their two‑year‑old child unattended at home; the child subsequently exited the front door and was observed wandering alone in the middle of a dark road late at night.
Court records indicate that Johnny JeanBaptiste, 36, and Stacia McMillian, 32, face charges of child neglect without great bodily harm.
A probable‑cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime reports that a motorist placed a 911 call at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after spotting the toddler walking alone on Jones Road near Talisi Loop in St. Cloud, an Orlando suburb. The motorist stopped, secured the child, and escorted the child to safety.
Law enforcement officials state that the child sustained no physical injuries, although the child was frightened and crying.
Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies canvassed the neighborhood and located the residence where the toddler lived. The affidavit notes that the front door stood wide open and no occupants were present. Toys scattered inside the home and a photograph of the boy confirmed that deputies had identified the correct residence.
A deputy contacted JeanBaptiste, who initially answered and then hung up on the officer. The deputy made several additional attempts, but JeanBaptiste blocked the number, the affidavit records. Eventually, JeanBaptiste responded, indicating that they were at a store and would return home within five minutes.
JeanBaptiste and McMillian arrived at the scene in a Toyota Corolla at approximately 12:30 a.m., roughly one hour after the motorist discovered the frightened child walking alone, according to deputies.
When questioned by police, JeanBaptiste and McMillian declined to provide details about their whereabouts beyond stating that they had fought and gone to a store. Both individuals reportedly emitted the odor of alcohol, and McMillian allegedly laughed during the interrogation.
Authorities arrested the couple and transported them to the Osceola County Jail, where they remain held without bond.
A family member retrieved the child, and the Department of Children and Families has opened an investigation into the incident.
