A 74‑year‑old Florida woman argued with her husband over a broken water hose before she brandished a knife and threatened to kill him inside the shed they share, according to police.
Cynthia Correll of Archer was arrested Saturday night after officers responded to the 16000 block of SW County Road 346 following reports of a domestic dispute, the arrest report states.
A witness reported hearing Correll and her husband quarrel before the couple entered the shed that serves as their residence in Alachua County. The witness informed police that Correll repeatedly declared she would kill the victim.
Correll’s husband told police that he entered the shed, lay down on the bed, and was approached by Correll wielding a knife, the report indicates.
“The victim and defendant were arguing over the water hose not working, and she was yelling at him,” police wrote. “The victim retreated to the shed they share and lay on the bed. The defendant advanced with a knife, pressed it against his left shoulder/chest area, and threatened to kill him if he did not leave.”
Correll allegedly struck the victim’s chest several times as he rose and exited the shed. He subsequently entered a house on the property and recounted the incident to the witness.
Correll engaged in a two‑hour standoff with officers on Saturday before her arrest. Police ordered her, via loudspeaker, to exit the shed, but she refused.
During the confrontation, Correll admitted to arguing with her husband but claimed she “did not hurt him this time.” She also used the knife to cut her own wrist, according to police.
Deputies transported Correll to a hospital for medical clearance before booking her into jail. She told officers that she wanted her husband to leave the shed because she feared she might injure him.
Correll denied striking her husband, possessing a knife, and threatening to kill him, according to police statements.
Investigators later recovered a blood‑stained knife from the shed that Correll had used to cut her wrist, the arrest report notes.
Correll faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, and resisting an officer without violence. She has no reported criminal history.
