A nine‑year‑old girl in Kentucky remained locked outside her home for 17 hours after her mother returned from a party intoxicated, brought the child inside, and then forgot that the child was still outside, police report.
Killebrew’s daughter testified that she pounded on the front door of their Hopkinsville residence repeatedly, attempting to awaken her drunken mother after they arrived from the party, but received no response, according to the Hopkinsville Police Department.
An arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime indicates that Killebrew arrived home from the party at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday with her daughter, entered the house, left the child outside, and subsequently failed to remember that the child remained outdoors.
The arrest report states: “Killebrew reported that she returned home from a party with her nine‑year‑old daughter at approximately … then locked the door and was so intoxicated that she passed out inside, believing her daughter was with her. When she awoke, she could not locate her daughter in the house and called 911.”
It was not until Friday morning that Killebrew allegedly realized her daughter was missing. “When she woke up, she could not find her daughter in the house and called 911,” the report notes. Officers located the child, who explained that the door was locked and that she had beaten on it many times without receiving an answer.
Investigators concluded that Killebrew’s daughter had been locked outside for roughly 17 hours, as detailed in the arrest report.
Killebrew was taken into custody and charged with second‑degree criminal abuse or neglect of a child under 12. She is scheduled to appear in court on 2 October for a preliminary hearing.
