Man detained for threat on Georgia power plant

A man from Holland, New York, was detained and charged on Wednesday after making a fake threat to use an explosive device on a Georgia power plant, according to the United States District Attorney’s Office.

According to officials, Joseph Leone, 23, wrote a private message to Georgia Power’s Instagram account in April, claiming to be an active employee at the facility and having put an explosive device within the office headquarters.

He threatened to detonate the device unless they “figured out a way to make things right with the citizens of Little Neck Road in Savannah.” The remark was sent in response to the plant down a 300-year-old oak tree.

Officials claimed the message prompted an evacuation and lockdown at headquarters in Atlanta and Savanna. No explosive device was discovered throughout the inquiry.

Leone faces a potential sentence of ten years in jail.
