A man faces many felony charges after leading deputies on a high-speed motorcycle pursuit through three Georgia counties, according to authorities.
Long County officers were patrolling Georgia Highway 196 at Joe Kennedy Road around 9:25 p.m. on October 3.
According to the sheriff’s office, a serjeant noticed a black Yamaha MT-07 motorcycle travelling west at great speed that night.
A sheriff’s office corporal further ahead saw the motorcycle pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone and recorded it at 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.
When the corporal attempted to pull over the motorcycle near Hay Field Road, the driver accelerated and fled, reaching speeds of up to 130 mph.
The chase proceeded into Tattnall County until turning left onto U.S. Highway 301, where another corporal took over as the lead unit.
The chase came to an end on Key Howard Road in Long County, where the driver, Victor Tavarez of Fort Stewart, brought the motorcycle to a stop.
As deputies attempted to apprehend him, Tavarez attempted to flee again, hitting a corporal and his police vehicle with the motorcycle, authorities said.
He lost control following the collision and was arrested.
The corporal received treatment for minor injuries.
Tavarez was charged with:
- Wrong class of driver’s license
- Improper passing on the left
- Reckless driving
- Speeding (2 counts)
- Felony fleeing or attempting to elude
- Felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer
- Aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer
