Federal prosecutors have charged a 37-year-old Bahamian citizen who lives legally in Florida for casting an illegal ballot in the 2024 federal general election.
Terrance Patrick Evans, a lawful permanent resident, is facing a federal charge of voting as an alien, according to United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe. According to the prosecution documents, Evans voted in the November 2024 election while knowing he did not hold US citizenship.
If convicted, Evans could face up to a year in federal prison.
Evans was legally charged by federal authorities via ‘information,’ which is an official charging document submitted directly by prosecutors. An ‘information’ is just a formal complaint that a defendant violated one or more federal criminal laws.
The matter was investigated jointly by Homeland Security Investigations, the Florida Department of State’s Office of Election Crimes, and the Citrus County Supervisor of Elections. Jerry M. Harre, Special Assistant United States Attorney, will oversee the government’s prosecution.
