Winnebago County man sentenced after cocaine investigation

Donquez Ashford, 31, was sentenced to prison following a drug probe earlier this year.

According to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office began looking into Ashford in January 2026 after receiving reports that he was trafficking drugs.

Deputies said they observed Ashford exchanging cocaine for money at a store in the 3600 block of East State Street.

When Ashford was detained, officers found more than 28 grams of a drug that eventually tested positive for cocaine, as well as more than $2,700 in cash.

In September 2026, authorities reported seeing Ashford selling suspected drugs near the Blackhawk Ridge Apartments. Investigators eventually executed a search warrant at the complex, finding Ashford in a bedroom with around $5,000 in his jacket pocket.

Ashford was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of delivering dangerous substances. Following his release from prison, he will serve an 18-month obligatory supervised release period.
