A Wisconsin man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly leading law enforcement on an 11-mile pursuit through rural Stephenson County at speeds over 100 mph on Sunday night.
According to the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to stop a car on Rock City Road at 10:25 p.m. on October 5 after observing it lacked a visible license plate.
According to authorities, the motorist did not stop and left. The pursuit lasted around 11 miles through rural areas of the county, with the car reaching speeds of above 100 mph.
During the chase, sheriff’s deputies used tire-deflation devices, successfully puncturing all four tires and considerably slowing down the car, officials said.
The pursuit came to an end at the Village of Orangeville when the vehicle exited the road while navigating a curve and collided with a large boulder. Deputies stated that the driver was not hurt and exited the vehicle as cops approached. He was taken into custody without additional incident. No deputies were injured.
The driver was identified as Jonathan Alpizar, 21, of Monroe, Wisconsin.
Alpizar was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude a peace officer, a felony; resisting a peace officer, a misdemeanor; exceeding the legal speed limit by 35 mph or more, a misdemeanor; and a number of other traffic violations.
After being processed at the Stephenson County Jail, Alpizar was released with a future court date under Illinois law.
