Missing University of Maryland student located alive after days-long search

A University of Maryland (UMD) student who sparked a days-long campus and community-wide search after disappearing has been located alive, police said.

Dilan Ashar, 22, was last spotted about 2:30 a.m. on October 2 by security cameras at the Terrapin Trail Parking Garage. He went missing without his phone or any identification. UMD and Prince George’s County police searched approximately 110 acres around the garage where Ashar was last seen but were unable to locate him for several days.

On Wednesday, Ashar was discovered alive and reunited with his family. Dilan has been reunited with his family thanks to the tremendous efforts of the UMPD and the entire community,” UMPD authorities said in a statement. “We thank all our Terps and community members who spread the word and supported this search.”

The news of his recovery came around a day after family members made an anguished plea for help in finding Ashar.
